JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A Research Technologist – Life Sciences Professional position is available immediately at Penn State University department of Biology. The Hines lab conducts research examining the genetics and evolution of bumble bees. The successful candidate will assist with projects that include morphological characterization (e.g., color traits, AI-based wing morphometrics), dissection and subsequent spectrophotometry of pigments, publication-quality microscopy and imaging of coloration phenotypes, DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing of bees to study the genetic basis of adaptive traits, live bumble bee care, and assistance in taxonomic and species delimitation research on these bees. The position would also manage basic lab care tasks including stocking supplies and lab safety.

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a Biology-related field.

The preferred applicant would have experience in the above-mentioned approaches, including experience in DNA extraction and sequencing, morphological analysis, and microscopy as well as strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work collaboratively in a research team, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and the PI.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $50,500.00
