Summary of the Position:
The Assistant Chief Engineer will report to the Chief Engineer and be based at our Class A property The Franklin in Chicago. The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall performance of the building systems, assisting the leadership of the Engineering team with operational management and administration of the engineering team with the objectives of safely, efficiently, and effectively operating, repairing, and maintaining, equipment and systems in accordance with the budget. The Assistant Chief Engineer must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the needs of the facility and related tenant needs. The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for protecting and improving the value of the assets and ensuring that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended functions optimally. The Assistant Chief Engineer will assist in developing as necessary, implementing, and managing the reliability-based maintenance and repair program, and continuously evaluating same, in combination with operations and reliability methods and making changes to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, or safety in consultation with the Chief Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
SCOPE
To assure safe, efficient, and proper operation and maintenance of all HVAC, domestic water, electric, life/safety and related equipment of the facility.
To assure proper adherence to all Engineering SOP’s as established by the company.
To train the highest quality engineers possible to meet the demands of the facility.
To maintain good customer relations through prompt, courteous response to customer requests and prompt resolution to customer problems.
AUTHORITY
In the absence of the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief Engineer assumes primary responsibility for Engineering in tandem with the General Manager, maintaining constant communication with the Director of Engineering.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls) electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear), cabling (data and voice, broad band), lighting and temperature controls systems, vertical transportation systems, critical environments and light construction (painting, doors, locks). Utilize staff and contracting with outside vendors as necessary.
Follow company Engineering SOP’s.
Supervise engineers and maintenance staff including training and personal development.
Assist with Identification of the maintenance objectives of the facility and incorporate those objectives into a documented plan that includes preventive, corrective and reliability maintenance procedures, and see that the plan is incorporated into the facilities’ maintenance management program (Angus) to organize and maintain a preventive maintenance program.
