About the role

Overview

The Department of Veterinary Clinical and Life Sciences (VCLS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for two open faculty positions in veterinary gross anatomy. These are 1.0 FTE fiscal-year appointments with an anticipated start date of 8/1/2025. Review of applications will begin April 15, 2025, and continue until the positions have been filled. The tenure-track rank of assistant or associate professor with a research emphasis (60% research/35% teaching/5% service), or the non-tenure track rank of professional practice assistant or associate professor with a teaching emphasis (95% teaching/5% service, with the option of a research component) will be considered. Academic year appointment may be negotiable based on the area of emphasis for a preferred candidate.

Responsibilities

Position responsibilities for Teaching:

  • Provide instruction in DVM courses, including formal instruction, laboratory instruction, and case-based group exercises for first-year veterinary students.
  • Take a leadership role in course organization and development.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Contribute to future development and delivery of veterinary medical instruction in the DVM degree curriculum.
  • Design, analyze, and publish pedagogical research.

Position responsibilities for Research:

  • Seek research collaborations within and outside USU to enhance scholarly activities.
  • Develop an extramurally funded research program.
  • Publish original research in peer-reviewed scientific or pedagogical journals.
  • Position responsibilities for Service:
  • Contribute to the department, college, university, and profession through service (e.g., serve on graduate student, curriculum, hiring, and admissions committees).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • DVM, PhD, or equivalent degree
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a team member in a collaborative setting.
  • Strong English language written and communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of professional experience as a veterinary gross anatomist.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching performance in an academic and/or similar professional setting.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish refereed scientific and/or pedagogical research.

Qualifications for Associate Professor:

  • At least five years of professional experience in veterinary gross anatomy instruction or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with a record of effective instruction in veterinary anatomy at the university level.
  • A strong record of scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications in anatomy, pedagogy, or related areas.
  • Experience in curriculum development and leadership, including course organization and innovation in teaching methodologies.
  • If a research role is desired, an established record of research productivity, with evidence of securing extramural funding supporting a sustained research program.
