As a top academic health and science center in the United States, Georgetown University Medical Center seeks to provide, in a synergistic fashion, excellence in education — training physicians, nurses and other health care professionals, as well as biomedical scientists — and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research collaboration, enhancing our basic science and translational biomedical research capacity in order to improve human health. Emphasizing service, we are dedicated to the Catholic, Jesuit principle of cura personalis — “care of the whole person.” Our partnerships with organizations in the region strengthen our work and expand its reach.

Georgetown University Medical Center’s Neurology department is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our Movement Disorders Division as a Research Fellow. This fellowship is designed to provide advanced training in clinical and translational research, focusing on the understanding and treatment of movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and other related conditions. The successful candidate will work under the mentorship of leading experts in the field, contributing to innovative research projects aimed at improving patient care and advancing scientific knowledge in movement disorders. Daily, the Clinical Research Fellow will report to the Director of Clinical Trials and two Principal Investigators. The Clinical Research Fellow is part of a robust team comprised of four research coordinators, the Director of Clinical Trials, Two Principal Investigators and up to 4 student hires.  Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • The clinical research fellow will help conduct and implement several clinical trials and some of their key responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Conduct and coordinate clinical and translational research projects in the field of movement disorders.

  • Design and implement research protocols, including clinical trials and observational studies.

  • Perform data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results.

  • Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including neurologists and other healthcare professionals, to develop comprehensive research strategies

Work Interactions

As an employee of Georgetown University, the Clinical Research Fellow directly supports the University’s mission of Cura Personalis. Clinical Trials offer a unique opportunity for a patient to receive personalized and comprehensive care in a manner that they may not experience otherwise as a patient. The Clinical Research fellow will enable patients with Movement Disorders to have more opportunities to participate in Clinical Trials with a focus on increasing the diversity of participants that participate in clinical trials. In the overall scheme of the Georgetown University Medical Center, this position indirectly and directly supports multiple departments. From a fiscal perspective, the indirect/overhead costs generated by clinical trials support the GUMC operating costs.
