WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As a Technical Project Manager – Fiber Optical Splicing, you will oversee the full lifecycle of fiber optic projects — from planning and execution through to testing, commissioning, and handover. This role combines strong technical expertise with advanced project management capabilities to ensure delivery of high-quality, compliant, and on-schedule fiber infrastructure solutions. You will serve as the primary point of coordination between engineering, field operations, and client stakeholders, ensuring that all splicing activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with company and industry standards (ITU, FOA, BICSI).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead the end-to-end management of fiber optic splicing projects, including new builds, network expansions, and repairs.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Conduct site assessments, review engineering design packages (EDPs), and validate technical feasibility.
  • Oversee installation, splicing, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure alignment with specifications.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain delivery timelines and quality standards.

Technical Oversight

  • Provide technical direction on fusion and mechanical splicing for single-mode, multi-mode, and ribbon fiber.
  • Supervise OTDR, OLTS, and power meter testing, ensuring data accuracy and certification integrity.
  • Analyze OTDR traces, loss budgets, and test results for quality assurance.
  • Support root cause analysis for faults or defects, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Stay current with emerging fiber optic technologies, testing methodologies, and equipment advancements.

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams including splicing technicians, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all operational protocols.
  • Mentor team members and foster professional development across field operations.
  • Act as the key liaison between internal departments, vendors, and clients to maintain communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Enforce QA/QC standards through regular inspections and audits.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet client requirements, contractual obligations, and industry benchmarks (ITU, FOA, BICSI).
  • Manage project documentation, including test results, as-built records, and handover packs.
  • Maintain strict adherence to health and safety policies and environmental standards.

Financial & Reporting

  • Develop and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, and resource utilization.
  • Track progress against KPIs, milestones, and SLAs.
  • Deliver regular project reports, dashboards, and performance summaries to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Support post-project reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Proven track record managing fiber optic splicing projects within data center, metro, or large-scale network environments.
  • Strong technical understanding of fiber splicing, testing, and fault management.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies (MS Project, Asana, Trello, or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, network schematics, and OTDR traces.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Familiarity with industry and regulatory standards (ITU, FOA, BICSI, OSHA).

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or related discipline.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
  • Recognized fiber optic certifications (e.g., FOA CFOT, BICSI Technician)
