Job Description

The Senior Director, News will be responsible for creating and driving the news strategy for 3E, increasing customer engagement, improving quality and relevancy of coverage, and implementing new tools and technology to strengthen the news and research functions. The Senior Director, News will engage with clients to get their feedback and work closely with product to bring the new news strategy to life. This person will also play a key leadership role in helping implement lean, standardized, and streamlined operational practices across the Research and Content Development function.

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with 3E’s Product team and customers to devise a strategy to maximize customer engagement with our news products and to leverage news to maximize engagement with other products
  • Work collaboratively with customers, research, product, and engineering teams to build and carry out an execution plan, including any content scope expansion, staff expansion and/or restructuring needs, to execute on the defined strategy
  • Drive operational excellence across the Research & Content Development team by identifying and realizing operational efficiencies, including business process reengineering, automation and establishing operational capabilities in lower-cost locations
  • Coordinate closely with the Product and Regulatory Research teams to define and implement News outputs; supporting operational systems, tools, and processes; and additional content sources
  • Manage 3E Monitor’s ongoing production, integration, and content expansion activities
  • Hire and train additional news staff to build out the News Operations function
  • Establish team goals, prepare, and manage team budget, carry out performance evaluations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, or a related field
  • 7+ years’ experience managing an online, global news organization

 

Other Required:

  • Proven ability to develop and successfully execute a news strategy, leading to increased business growth and sales
  • Experience working closely with Product teams using Scrum/Agile methodology
  • Experience implementing new toolsets, automation and Lean concepts
  • Ability to research and comprehend complex regulatory landscapes; in-depth knowledge of EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety)/ Chemicals industry preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive strategic and tactical initiatives, and prioritize initiatives based on business needs
  • Self-motivated, resourceful leader with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple streams of ongoing work successfully
  • Ability to operate as an enterprise leader, understanding the needs of the business and how the research and content development team fits within the overall strategy. Educate and drive important news updates to other parts of the business as necessary
  • Excellent time management, leadership, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical reasoning, decision-making skills, ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable leading a global team and interacting with executive leadership on a regular basis, as well as board members on occasion.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $155,000-$195,000.  Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range.  The exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s skills, experience, geography, and qualifications as well as the candidate's location of residence.  In addition to base salary, some roles may be eligible for a variable bonus based on a combination of company performance, employee performance, and/or equity depending on the position offered.
