Classification: Full Time, hourly

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 2 PM

Salary: starting $17.00/ hour,

Overview of Your Role Food Service Worker is responsible for organizing and performing cooking, food preparation, and delivery functions at the Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area Food Program. The Food Program operates according to CACFP guidelines to provide hundreds of meals for children at after-school programs in the Capital Region. The Food Service Worker plays a crucial role in ensuring that the Food Program runs smoothly and provides effective food service.

Key Roles:

• Prepare, cook, and serve meals in accordance with CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) or SFSP (Summer Food Service Program) guidelines, ensuring proper portion sizes based on ages served
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including rotating, stocking, and cleaning shelves, refrigerators, and freezers as needed
• Utilize standard precautions regarding food health and safety, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices
• Communicate with and respond to the needs of site staff to ensure meal service goes smoothly, via email, phone, and on-site visits and deliveries
• Train and provide supervision for community service, volunteers, and new staff
• Collaborate with the Food Service team to ensure efficient and effective operation of the Food Program
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

CREDENTIALS, SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• At least one (1) year of experience working in the food service industry
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
• Ability to obtain food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) within 30 days of hire
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to multitask and pay attention to detail
