Overview and Responsibilities
Occupational Health Advisor/Nurse
Location: Home based (with one day per month in central office). Some travel to Aurora Services will also be required
Hours: 24 hrs per week (flexible on hours per day/number of days per week). Please note that while core hours are 24 per week, there may be the need for additional (paid) hours to be worked during peak recruitment times – this will include July/August due to onboarding of education roles for September starts.
Actual Annual Salary: £20,167 - £24,173 dependent upon relevant experience (FTE salary £33,612 - £40,289)

The Aurora Group is one of the largest providers of SEND educational and care services in the country, supporting over 1,500 children, young people and adults, and employing nearly 2000 staff spread across 27 services around England.
We’re currently looking for a part time Occupational Health Advisor or Nurse, reporting to our Lead Occupational Health Advisor to continue the development of our in-house Occupational Health service. Having brought the Occupational Health service in house earlier in 2025, the benefits to individuals and to the business have already proven themselves, meaning we are now looking to expand the service. You will support senior leaders to make decisions regarding candidates who are onboarding as well as supporting processes for existing employees with health requirements.
This will include suitability of individuals for roles, appropriate adjustments and development of meaningful risk assessment through delivery of quality Occupational Health assessments.
The Role:
- Review and advise on pre-employment candidates’ health questionnaires, undertaking occupational health assessments where required. This will involve liaising with Onboarding Team, Service Leadership and HR Business Partners supporting the process of health risk assessments and decision making on fitness/suitability of candidate for role. Where necessary support risk assessment meetings including the candidate.
- Undertake Occupational Health Assessments where appropriate and complete relevant referral paperwork for occupational health expert supplier referrals.
- Support follow up actions based on occupational health reports.
- Working closely with the Lead Occupational Health Advisor, support process of reasonable adjustments, including management of Access to Work and other suppliers of other equipment.

Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
Successful candidates need to demonstrate:
- Relevant qualification and experience in nursing with interest in and knowledge of the specialism of Occupational Health. Further training can be provided
- Ability to balance the needs of the business with the needs of individual employees’ health conditions
- Previous experience or the ability to develop a deep understanding of working within a SEN environment
- Excellent written skills
- Personal resilience and the ability to manage challenging individual situations
- Strong and persuasive verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyse situations, information and data
- Open-minded and being flexible to change.
- Proactiveness and have the ability to work independently whilst effectively working within a team
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
Whilst the role is home based, candidates will need the ability to travel regularly to our Central office in Twigworth, Gloucester (once a month), as well as being able to attend our services as and when needed to support Occupational Health processes. Whilst driving is not essential and travel can be expensed for public transport, please bear in mind our services are countrywide and some are semi-rural locations.
