A Lead Equipment Trainer develops, delivers, and manages training programs for operating and maintaining heavy machinery, focusing on safety, technical skills, and compliance (OSHA/regulatory), while also providing leadership, scheduling work, assessing operator competency, and maintaining training records for both new hires and experienced staff. Key duties include maintaining current curriculum, hands-on instruction, performance evaluation, and ensuring alignment with company goals for productivity and safety, often acting as a subject matter expert. Key Responsibilities
• Training Delivery: Conduct classroom and practical training, including certifications (forklift, aerial lift, etc.) and safety protocols (OSHA).
• Hands-on Instruction: Conduct practical demonstrations and provide "over-the-shoulder" coaching on the operation and maintenance of heavy or specialized equipment
• Technical Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert for equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting complex mechanical issues.
• Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, maintain accurate training records, and validate certifications.
• Performance Management: Assess operator competency, provide feedback, and help identify training gaps.
• Stakeholder Communication: Advise management and other stakeholders on training needs and progress. Essential Skills & Qualifications
• Extensive experience operating and maintaining specific heavy equipment (e.g., PIT equipment).
• Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
• Excellent communication (written/verbal) and instructional skills.
• Ability to assess technical skills and provide constructive feedback.
• Knowledge of relevant OSHA and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
• Experience: Typically requires 5 to 10+ years of direct experience operating or maintaining relevant equipment.
• Skills: Strong public speaking and interpersonal abilities; proficiency in Microsoft Office; and the ability to interpret technical manuals or blueprints.
• Physical Demands: Must be able to lift heavy objects (up tp 50 lbs), stand for long periods, walk long distances within the distribution center. This role will work a Hybrid Schedule 4 days 8-4:30 and 1 day per week 12 PM – 8:30 PM to accommodate the new shift schedules.
