Our Earth & Environment team is seeking a Part-Time Construction Materials Testing Intern – Fall/Winter 2026 to work out of our Knoxville, TN office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.
This internship is anticipated to take place during the Fall & Winter 2026 semesters.
Your Impact
- Assist in field testing of construction materials including concrete, soils, and asphalt under the direction of senior technicians.
- Help collect, label, and transport samples to the laboratory.
- Support operation and basic upkeep of field-testing equipment.
- Maintain accurate field notes and assist with documentation of test data.
- Learn and follow safety procedures, testing standards, and quality protocols.
- Perform general field support tasks such as equipment handling and site coordination.
- Work as part of a project team and communicate clearly with supervisors and contractors.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Demonstrated interest in Construction Materials Testing, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
- Ability to regularly lift 60 pounds (materials, tools, samples).
- Must be punctual, dependable, and able to work weekends and occasional nights.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, or related, Master’s or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.
- Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
