About the role

The City of Topeka’s Information Technology (IT) department is seeking a dedicated individual to join its team as the department’s Business Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Information Technology department, including accounting and financial management, business operations, vendor management and administration functions.

What you'll do:

  • Track day-to-day expenses and make recommendations to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Compile revenue, expenditure and other related forecasts for use in departmental budget preparation.
  • Develop and maintain processes for tracking software, hardware and professional service vendors, contracts and licenses.
  • Evaluate, review and manage third-party technology vendors, service providers and their related contracts.
  • Oversee delivery of IT projects within scope, time and budget.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Extremely organized with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A critical thinker with the ability to analyze information, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions.
  • An excellent communicator.
  • Relationship-driven, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, public administration or a related field is required with at least three years of financial, computer science and/or analytical experience OR
  • Without a bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma or its equivalent is required with at least seven years of financial, computer science and/or analytical experience.
  • Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) is preferred. Additional licenses or certifications may be required.

Annual Entry Salary: $63,865 - $76,638 depending on qualifications
