Referral Specialist - Ball Memorial - Full Time Days

Hours: 36 hrs/wk - Monday – Thursday 7:45am – 5pm and Friday 7:45am – 12pm
Location: First floor of IU Health Ball Maternal Fetal Health – 2401 W University Ave Muncie IN 47303
Collaborates with physicians, patients, and team members to review and schedule referrals for high-risk specialty obstetrical care. Serves as pivotal point for communication among these parties. Provides assistance in utilization management and related duties by working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to achieve desired clinical, service and cost outcomes. Ensures that patients presenting for treatment is scheduled appropriately for the treatment and consultation. Provides valuable information for consideration in clinical decision-making. Provides medical records to the referring office to ensure provider recommendations received.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing referrals for scheduling in the specialty office
- Contacting patients and providers with information
- Checking in patients – checking out patients – rescheduling any follow up appts needed
- Getting orders for future appointments if needed
- All clerical type duties in the office setting
Must Have:
- Medical office experiences a must
- Obstetrical OB office a preferred
- Works well with a multidisciplinary team
Requirements:
• Requires High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one-year medical office experience or combination of extensive customer service work experience and education in insurance verification, patient registration, and medical terminology.
• Requires working knowledge of payer billing requirements, regulations, and the third party appeal and denial process.
