Responsibilities:- Build positive relationships, inspire others to perform at a higher level, and provide input on career development plans in support of retaining an accountable workforce.
- Provide guidance, technical direction, and training to staff, and assist with scheduling.
- Function as point of reference for staff.
- Provide input on performance reviews.
- Oversee quantity and quality of work performed.
- Coordinate work of staff and follow up on assigned tasks.
- Instruct staff on operational policies and procedures.
- Provide direction to staff to ensure all new hire training and annual trainings are completed on time.
- Follow all established guidelines for venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, and collection of body fluid specimens.
- Complete all required documentation accurately, in a timely manner, and thoroughly in accordance with department standards.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
- Any identified problems require immediate notification to technical CLS supervisor.
- Workstation and laboratory areas are kept clean in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.
- Maintain lab supplies and materials at appropriate stock levels.
- Monitor and adhere to laboratory safety per the FHCSD chemical hygiene plan and safety processes.
- Perform specimen handling, storage of specimens and processing according to Laboratory Procedure Manual.
- Follow the Laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Input order entry, pending log and cancellation of specimens into the computer tracking system.
- Perform clerical duties related to reporting of results and distribution in a timely manner.
- Perform Point-of-Care Waived Test according to Laboratory Procedure Manual.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma, GED Equivalent or Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certificate from an approved DHHS training facility Required.
- Current California license or certificate as a Phlebotomy Technician.
- Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advanced Resuscitation Training.
- Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required. Must have a valid California driver’s license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency. Reasonable accommodation may be provided on a case-by-case basis. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.
Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)
- 3 years of experience as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
- Demonstrated experience as a leader preferred.
- Knowledge of supervision, performance management, and employee disciplinary protocols.
- Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.
- Ability to multi-task, be flexible, ensure accuracy, and meet changing priorities in a fast-paced high-workload environment.
- Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish or other language preferred, or may be required depending on assignment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with employees, coworkers, and departments.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management skills.
- Possess strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to include ability to communicate effectively
