Acts as a functional manager within area of expertise but does not manage other employees as a primary job function.
Responsibilities
Leads desktop Workstation Linux certification and system integration strategy and testing operating at the intersection of hardware engineering, kernel development, and quality assurance
Linux OS partner management including Canonical, Red Hat, and SUSE
Leads team partnership efforts with Linux counterparts at suppliers such as Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, etc.
Leads team effort to work with regional sales and customers to solve Linux issues pre and post sales
Leads the preparation and creation of instructional technical manuscripts for Linux software systems operation.
Coordinates Linux release strategy and schedules for critical HP products and services
Works with vendors to determine minimum supportable software versions for platforms and to enable new hardware as early as possible.
Manages resources to complete programming projects, and designs detailed plans to ensure Linux software systems are functioning properly.
Works closely with software developers, system administrators, quality assurance teams, and project managers to ensure alignment and successful project execution.
Oversees work of others related to improving the performance and reliability of the organization's Linux software systems infrastructure.
Reviews Linux system engineering and validation coverage throughout the lifecycle of the program and publishes plan and progress reports.
Develops organization-wide Linux architectures and methodologies for software systems design and development across multiple platforms and organizations within the global business unit.
Identifies and evaluates new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships for alignment with technology roadmap and business value; creates plans for integration and update into architecture.
Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
Leverages recognized domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of executive business leadership, outsourced development partners, and industry standards groups.
Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members to set an example of software systems design and development innovation and excellence.
Understands and educates historical context of open-source software and evolution of UNIX-like systems.
Appreciates and champions Linux computing, especially desktop experiences and technologies.
Education and Experience Required
Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
Typically has 10+ years of work experience, preferably in Linux and UN*X systems engineering, computer programming language, or a related field.
Knowledge & Skills
x86_64 Architecture, UEFI, PCIe Knowledge: Understanding of BIOS/UEFI firmware interfaces, ACPI tables, CPU power states (C-states/ P-states). Familiarity with PCIe and USB bus protocols.
Kernel & Driver Expertise: Ability to troubleshoot Linux kernel modules, analyze dmesg logs, and understand how drivers work, are arc
