Principal Environmental Specialist - Environmental Advisor (Remediation and Due Diligence)

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under broad direction, responsible for implementing or managing the implementation of programs, policies, procedures and processes in support of the Company's environmental strategies, including but not limited to: environmental management systems, project management of site investigation and remediation projects, EHS due diligence and integration for M&A transactions and assistance with other general environmental tasks.
  • Provides expert technical advice to operations, real estate services and legal personnel, and manages all budget, schedule, technical content and regulatory aspects of environmental due diligence and remediation projects on a global basis.
  • Other duties include: presentations, report writing, development of training and associated materials, interpretation of data, standards, codes and regulations.
  • Must maintain professional knowledge of a wide variety of environmental regulations and issues, as well as proposed changes.
  • In addition, the position may develop new programs and make improvements to management systems as required in response to changes necessitated by business markets and clients.
  • Facilitation and leadership of focused teams is common, as well as interface at all organizational levels, with regulatory agencies, and affected third parties and their representatives.
  • Provides leadership and technical direction to other less experienced personnel.
  • Called upon to manage medium to large projects including functional project teams.
  • Assignments will not be generally well defined and will require a high degree of initiative and technical expertise to determine best approach to problem solving.

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field (M.S. a plus)
  • Engineering and/or Geology Professional license required without advanced degree
  • 10+ years’ experience managing and executing environmental projects under federal/state programs and industry standards
  • Strong leadership, team building, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in managing environmental due diligence projects, including Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments following ASTM guidelines
  • Experience managing brownfield redevelopment projects
  • Experience with federal and state grants/funded work a plus
  • Knowledge and proficiency with allied due diligence elements a plus (i.e., hazardous building materials, jurisdictional waters, NEPA, etc.)
  • Proficient in scoping and managing subsurface investigations, as well as developing investigation and remediation work plans, corrective action plans and final reports
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations for air, water, and wastewater
  • Environmental permitting/compliance and regulatory reporting program experience a plus
