Utility Operations and Maintenance Lead

About This Role

The Utility Operations and Maintenance Lead manages the execution of all utility and facility maintenance operations to efficiently deliver reliable systems in support of operations. Partners with Plant Engineering and Automation for the optimization of all infrastructure and utilities equipment including HVAC, chillers, air compressors and dryers, cooling towers, glycol systems, steam generation and clean utilities such as WFI (water for injection), WPU(Purified Water) clean steam and gases. This role also leads troubleshooting efforts using best practice tools to understand and correct the root cause of failures. A key component of this role is the development and continuous improvement of work processes that optimize team efficiency.

What You'll Do

• Lead the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of complex utility systems and controls.
• Manage all maintenance and operations related to the site utilities (Black, Clean HVAC, Electricity) needed to stay in operations 24/7/365.
• Collaborates closely with all departments on site to understand and meet customer needs
• Develop maintenance budgets and seek cost improvement opportunities on spend and utility usage/ waste
• Create or change workflows in pursuit of safer, more compliant, and more efficient operations.
• Ensure workforce adheres to job plans, GxP requirements, safety policies and all relevant SOP’s.
• Establish an environment of trust and accountability to support a high performing team.
• Impact site regulatory compliance through team practices and audit presentations to Partners and regulatory authorities.
• Ensure all activities are compliant with cGxP and safety practices.
• Serve a Subject Matter Expert on Utility Systems for regulatory audits and capital project initiatives.
• Provide regular performance feedback in accordance with people management policies.

Qualifications

• High School (or equivalent) and 7 years of experience OR Associate’s Degree and 5 years of experience OR Bachelors degree and 3 years of experience. 
• 5 years experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or other regulated health care industries.
• Knowledge of Manufacturing operations in a Biopharma environment required.
• Experience with projects within large sites.
• Can effectively lead change & complete initiatives aligned with the business.
• Ability to flex and respond to unexpected situations, demands.

Preferred Qualifications

• People leadership experience in a technical environment.
