Job Duties
The Lord Fairfax Health District is seeking a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Coordinator to provide oversight and coordination of the district's volunteer program in support of public health initiatives, emergency preparedness, response, and recovery operations. This position is responsible for recruiting, engaging, training, and retaining MRC volunteers; maintaining regular communication with volunteers, work unit staff, community organizations, healthcare partners, and emergency management agencies; and identifying volunteer resources to support district programs and operations.
In collaboration with district leadership, program staff, and community partners, the MRC Coordinator assesses volunteer needs and determines appropriate service roles for planned events, public health campaigns, emergency exercises, and incident response activities. The coordinator maintains volunteer readiness through training, credentialing, and record management; coordinates volunteer activation, deployment, and demobilization during emergencies; supports emergency planning, drills, and exercises; and contributes to after-action improvement efforts to strengthen the district's emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
Provides program oversight by contacting volunteers, work unit staff, other agencies and organizations to recruit volunteers and inform work unit staff of services needed. In coordination with program and district leadership and community partners, determines appropriate service role and need for volunteers in planned events. Supervises the training, performance, scheduling and utilization of volunteers. Serves as a liaison between operations, administration and other staff and volunteers to assure optimum use of resources. Prepares reports and performs some general administrative tasks. May manage and monitor grants applications and disbursements/deliverables to assure sufficient funds and services are available to support program commitments. Represents the MRC at local and regional planning and coalition meetings.
Additionally supports in a staff capacity, by focusing on intermediate term program issues with agency wide application. Characteristic duties include: program development, planning, monitoring, analysis, grants management, recommending policies and procedures, program research, and evaluating changes in rules, regulations and legislative proposals for impact on service delivery. Knowledge of program management, analytical principles and service integration is necessary.
Responsibilities are carried out independently based on an outline or work plan developed by or approved by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience in coordinating and managing volunteers and community services
· Demonstrated leadership ability
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/public speaking skills
· Experience and ability to provide training to others
· Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a
diverse constituency
· Knowledge and experience in use of computers and computer applications -Knowledge of and experience in planning and policy development and
implementation, program evaluation and coalition building
· Experience developing and exercising emergency response plans
· Experience in health communications essential
· Knowledge of and experience working within the community environment with
emergency preparedness and response resources and methods
Additional Considerations
· Prior public health and/or outreach experience preferred
· Knowledge of and experience with public health responses to threats and emergencies,
including but not limited to bioterrorism, preferred
