Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Disaster Recovery Advisor to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
The ideal candidate will become part of Peraton’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Datacenter Consolidation and Cloud Optimization (DCCO) program providing systems engineering support to the DHS Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART) biometric system. This individual will be responsible preparing total level contingency plans for system software, hardware, and applications for the organization and/or customer. Implements procedures to ensure business applications continue to function through disruptive incidents within an organization. Continuously validates various security controls are in place to protect technology assets from internal or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction. Provides reports regarding effectiveness of data security and makes recommendations for the adoption of new procedures. Responsible for ensuring the business resumption plan adequately addresses the organization’s requirements and established timeframes. Day to Day work Responsibilities:
- Monitor for approved changes and their risk/impacts to system functionality
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs} for planned and upcoming changes in design that may affect system resiliency or recovery plans
- Identifying potential disaster scenarios, analyzing vulnerabilities within systems and infrastructure, and prioritizing critical assets.
- Creating comprehensive plans outlining procedures for data backup, system restoration, communication protocols, and recovery time objectives (RTOs).
- Overseeing data backup processes, ensuring redundancy across multiple locations, and testing data integrity.
- Conducting regular disaster recovery drills to validate plan effectiveness, identify issues, and train staff on response procedures.
- Ensure the implementation of high availability solutions, including load balancers and failover clusters, to minimize downtime during disruptions.
- Evaluating and managing relationships with disaster recovery service providers, including data center providers and cloud service vendors.
- Acting as a central point of contact during disaster events, coordinating response efforts with various departments and stakeholders.
- Reviewing disaster recovery actions after an event to identify areas for improvement and update plans accordingly.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 8 years’ experience or a Masters degree and 6 years of experience or a HS diploma/equivalent and 12 years experience.
- U.S. Citizenship required; Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Entrance on Duty (EOD) clearance.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work with diverse teams across the organization.
- Working knowledge with AWS, DevOps and Agile methodologies.
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage systems, and cloud technologies.
- Expertise in data backup and recovery methodologies.
- Knowledge of business continuity planning principles.
- Project management skills to manage complex disaster recovery initiatives.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, PCI DSS)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) Certifications
- AWS certifications
- Knowledge of:
- Biometrics.
- RHEL, Windows, Openshift/Kubernetes & other open-source technologies.
- Ansible and Docker containers.
- Aurora AWS (PostgreSQL) database.
