Marketing Product Manager, Sr - Protective & Marine Division
Sherwin-WilliamsAbout the role
Responsibilities require a deep understanding of coating materials and their application in various environmental conditions. Here is a breakdown of the review:
Product Recommendation and Training:
This role involves a significant portion of time spent on recommending coatings for different service conditions. This includes understanding the environmental factors (such as atmospheric service, immersion, temperature, pressure, and chemical exposure) and selecting the appropriate coating type (e.g., epoxy, vinyl ester, polyester, polyurea) and resin (e.g., Bis A, Bis F, Novolac) based on the conditions provided. Providing guidance on surface preparation and film thickness is crucial for ensuring the effectiveness and longevity of the coating system
Evaluation of Environmental Conditions:
Assessing the environmental or service conditions for which the coating system is recommended and determining warranty and life expectancy are essential tasks. This involves analyzing factors such as exposure to UV radiation, chemicals, abrasion, temperature variations, and substrate conditions to accurately predict the performance and durability of the coating system.
New Product Launches and Training:
Explaining and training the sales force on new product launches requires comprehensive knowledge of the features and benefits of different coating technologies. This includes understanding the critical quality attributes (CTQs) of each technology (e.g., Amine Epoxy, Polyamide Epoxy, Aliphatic Epoxy, Aromatic Epoxy, Novolac Vinyl Ester) and effectively communicating how each product differs from similar technologies in terms of performance, durability, and application suitability.
Failure Analysis:
Conducting failure analysis based on provided information or photos to determine the root cause of coating failures or anomalies is a critical responsibility. This involves identifying potential causes such as improper surface preparation, inadequate film thickness, substrate issues, environmental exposure, or application errors. Providing direction on further investigation or corrective actions is essential for preventing future failures and optimizing coating performance.
Overall, these responsibilities require a strong technical background in coatings technology, surface preparation techniques, environmental conditions, and failure analysis methods. Effective communication skills are also essential for providing clear guidance to both internal teams and external clients
