Collins Aerospace is looking for a Deputy Program Technical Manager (PTM) and provide technically informed, proactive leadership support for all technical activities for the BizJet Program Technical Office. You will serve primarily as the inward facing lead for all program-related technical activities in support of product development, flight test, certification, and Ship Unit Cost / Value Engineering and sustaining engineering. In addition, you will serve as the PTM back-up when needed and receive training and guidance to support obtaining a PTM role in the future.

  • Position will be working onsite at our Chula Vista CA facility.

What You Will Do

  • Work closely with the PTM, the D-PTM will establish the direction and required progress of the assigned team(s) activities. 
  • Provide guidance and lead the team’s decision making, providing direction of progress and extent of progress.
  • Support customer satisfaction through frequent interaction with the customer to address certification, field, or flight test issues and any other areas of concern.
  • Ability to effect necessary progress in all technical disciplines
  • Understand Technical Compliance Requirements for both customers and Collins Aerospace; understands the need to plan for all compliance requirements and drives to completion. 
  • Provide technical leadership for the assigned program.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, in writing and by presentations to both technical and non-technical personnel. 
  • Ability to interact with all groups interfacing with the assigned team to ensure that progress is phased effectively. 
  • Responsible to lay out engineering plans and implement them effectively. 
  • Responsible to lay out an analysis plan in sufficient detail such that the management of the plan will provide visibility to indicate when corrective measures are needed.  
  • Understand the Engineering LE budget process and able to work with engineering disciplines to track and meet budgets while maintaining schedule commitments. 
  • Regularly review a status of the budget to ensure that planned work accomplished is compatible with budget expenditure
  • Ability to propose and executive mitigations to recover budget overruns and schedule delays.
  • Provide Continuous Improvement leadership in developing and using standardized component engineering processes, tools and templates for new product introduction, enhancing component commonality and re-use
  • Create, make and lead presentations to executive level leadership
  • Travel up to 15% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 7 years of experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position 
  • Experience designing and developing advanced aircraft structures
  • Experience leading a team of professionals
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement Tools and Processes

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience designing and certifying nacelles
  • Project Lead experience
  • Experience in a customer facing role
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE
  • Global leadership experience
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed environment
  • Advanced Degree (Master’s)
  • Experience with an ERP system, SAP
