Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Rail/Transit Engineer to join our Chicago, IL Office

JOB SUMMARY:

The Sr. Transit/Rail Engineer in the Chicago Office is a key position and will report into the US West Region Transit/Rail Engineering Department. The position includes responsibility for business development, management of transportation planning studies, preliminary design studies and final design of transit and freight rail improvement projects. This is an exceptional opportunity to be involved with major capital infrastructure transit/rail projects for our clients.  The Clients include CTA, Metra, CDOT, IDOT as well as counties, municipalities, regional planning agencies, ports, and Class I railroads. The successful candidate may be asked to serve as an AECOM team and/or discipline lead, project manager and/or technical task leader on selected projects and will coordinate, cooperate, and work collaboratively with others in the AECOM US West Region.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in the area of managing and preparing transportation project teams
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
  • Approves and signs off on work
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
  • Participates in development of technical proposals
  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
  • Lead development and execution of significant rail/transit including light rail, heavy rail subway, commuter rail, high speed rail, and/or bus rapid transit surface, aerial or underground project pursuits and delivery
  • Be a visible leader and trusted advisor to clients by promoting AECOM’s values both internally and externally
  • Proven track record with large client account management, major-project pursuits, and engineering/planning staff development
  • A desire to work with external contractors/consultants, AECOM’s other divisions/regions and interact directly with major clients

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education       

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ leading rail/transit engineering projects with major-project management experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineer
  • PE license in Illinois or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of starting in new role
  • Establish relationships with CTA, and other local agencies such as CDOT, IDOT and Metra
  • Ability to scope/estimate complex projects
  • Track and manage task budgets and schedule experience
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and communication skills requiring client interaction
  • Ability to work with various multi-disciplined teams is essential to this role
  • Provide in-depth Quality Control and Quality Assurance for design/project management/program management.

  • Offered rate of compensation (Illinois locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $123,000 - $200,000.
