Job Description
 

Overview 

The Environmental Coordinator III serves as a subject matter expert in environmental compliance, due diligence, remediation, sustainability, EMS, and outreach. Supports the City of Dallas in identifying, managing, and resolving environmental risks while leading public education and digital engagement efforts. 

Essential Functions 
1 Designs, implements, and supports environmental programs related to property redevelopment and maintenance, including environmental due diligence, municipal setting designation, sites in a TCEQ regulatory cleanup program, and hazardous building material projects. 
2 Serves as an auditor for all internal audits of regulatory compliance for city departments; manages EMS, researches and completes professional audits following EMS ISO14001 requirements, and responds to findings; tracks audit schedules for departments and communicates findings to agencies, city leadership, and other internal committees. 
3 Develops a database for regulatory programs and reports to state agencies. 
4 Identifies needed areas of improvement and makes recommendations; monitors program success through data analysis. 
5 Develops, promotes, and presents outreach programs, on and off site, for various age groups, businesses, and citizens to educate on new regulations, stormwater, conservation initiatives, waste management, sustainability, and air pollution programs; in partnership with the community leaders, develops and facilitates programs on reducing human impact on environment. 
6 Develops strategic planning initiatives to achieve objectives of the department; promotes customer service by communicating initiatives, monitoring permitting, and assisting customers in the resolution of environmentally impactful decisions. 
7 Creates relevant online and social media content for the benefit of environmental programs. 
8 Designs and curates required environmental trainings and analyzes the results. 
9 Addresses environmental issues in pollinator collection, food safety, waste management, and water handling environments. Coordinates sustainability programs and measures improvements. 
10 Responds to spills, informs the assigned divisions of spill cleanup procedures, ensures spills are cleaned in accordance with city protocols, and updates the Spill Response Bulletin. 
11 Coordinates continuous improvement projects as part of the city’s Environmental Management System that includes designing, implementing, tracking, reporting, and evaluating the success of environmental/sustainability projects. 
12 Performs other work as needed or assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
1 Thorough knowledge of Environmental Due Diligence, Stormwater, Zero Waste, Sustainability Conservation Concepts, and EMS.
2 Knowledge of environmental site assessments, state regulatory cleanup programs, and hazardous building material assessments and abatement relevant to the principles and practices of public administration and management. 
3 Expert knowledge of Federal and State regulations and standards, including ISO 14001. 
4 Knowledge of auditing principles and practices. 
5 Knowledge of project management, permitting specifications, and project schedules. 
6 Expertise in conducting inspections, collect data and draft reports. Ability to train, educate, and communicate with citizens and city staff. 
7 Ability to develop strategic plans and facilitate implementation of initiatives. 
8 Ability to lead and guide other on environmental management standards for various industries. 
9 Skill in MS Office and data management. 
10 Skill in content development, establishing and maintaining social media presence. 
11 Skill in public speech, public outreach, and public engagement. 
12 Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels, including with TCEQ, city executives, consultants, and contractors 
13 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 

Education 
Bachelor's degree in an architectural, engineering, geoscience, environmental or natural science field.
