Who will you be working with?

The Wabtec Mining team delivers world class electric drive propulsion systems for heavy haul off-highway mining trucks with payloads up to 400T.  These systems are introducing new technology to help mines meet their production and sustainability goals. 

How will you make a difference?

In this role, the Engineering Technical Leader will work with the Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) engineering team to develop, implement, & validate controls for off highway electric drive mining vehicles.  You’ll have the opportunity to interact directly with customers and cross functional teams during product definition and project execution.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Electrical Engineering with a preference for advanced degrees.

  • Minimum of 7 years of Engineering experience.

  • Desired engineering experience in the following motor, alternator, and power electronics, control development & validation, modeling using model-based design tools such as MatLab/Simulink and/or MATRIXx, system design and circuit analysis.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Develop control systems for new products and new features for our existing fleet.  Control development will span the entire lifecycle from customer definition, concept selection, modeling, simulation, implementation, verification, and validation testing.

  • Document system requirements and flow requirements to subsystem, & component development teams.

  • Review subsystem / component development and verification results.

  • Design and analyze the control system. 

  • Evaluate detailed designs for technical merit & adherence to sound engineering principles.

  • Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Coordinate sub-system testing performed internally, at 3rd party sites, or at customer sites. 

  • Conduct system control testing at internal labs, 3rd party sites, customer proving grounds, and at mines.

  • Plan project work.  Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments.

  • Resolve control related field issues as assigned.

  • Travel periodically for durations of typically one to three weeks to conduct testing or investigate issues.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Candidates will be required to work in a full-scale propulsion system test lab and support field testing. 

  • Climb multistory access stairs and/or ladders on large mining trucks to perform validation testing.

  • Work with hand-coded control models and interpret models and simulations.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$77,400.00-$110,300.00
