The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), on the Faculty-Scientist track, with an anticipated start date of Summer 2027. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment (3-year term, renewable, if Assistant Professor).

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCRC), and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan. 

This is an exceptional opportunity for a neonatologist who wishes to spend most of their time dedicated to research at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI) as well as some time devoted to clinical care and education. Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) is one of the largest pediatric research institutions in the U.S., and it is organized into several research centers focusing on various aspects of pediatric health. The main research centers at SCRI include the Center for Clinical and Translational Research (CCTR), the Center for Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CDBRM), the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR), the Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies (CIIT), the Center for Integrative Brain Research (CIBR), the Center for Pediatric Bioethics and Palliative Care, and the Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development (CHBD). Each of these centers engages in interdisciplinary research that combines clinical insights with scientific discoveries to improve pediatric health outcomes. Clinical sites of care include the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle Washington. 

All University of Washington faculty on the Faculty-Scientist track engage in service, teaching, and research. The Division of Neonatology has three primary areas of research focus: bench to bedside neonatal neuroprotection/neuroscience, simulation as an educational and clinical competency tool, and global neonatal-perinatal health. We also have an outstanding ethics program at the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics. Candidates will be considered across a range of interests. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, a completed US-accredited pediatric neonatology residency and pediatric neonatology fellowship program, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

The Division of Neonatology has an outstanding fellowship training program, robust clinical/translational and basic research, and provides clinical care at two academic level IV NICUs and several regional level III NICUs. Our mission is to improve the outcome of pregnancy by advancing neonatal scholarship, educating the next generation of neonatal caregivers, and by providing outstanding evidence based neonatal clinical care. The base salary range for this position will be Assistant Professor - $12,867 - $19,300 per month ($154,
