About the Role

The Senior Research Engineer, EE, and Mechatronics Integration will work on technology projects within the Corporate R&D Advanced Body Domain, supporting the technical evaluation and due diligence of new developments in multiple areas of the complete vehicle including body-safety-comfort electronics and other Electronics and Electrical Architecture (E/EA).  

 

Within these areas of Magna’s Advanced Vehicle Systems organization, an emphasis will be placed on E/EA and integration developments of various HMI and Mechatronics components including ECU, sensors, actuators, switches, lighting, HVAC, instrument clusters, displays, infotainment, control systems and other innovative technologies being considered by Magna. 

 

The Senior Research Engineer will plan, execute, and coordinate all related activities for/with all other internal Corporate R&D Domains, Magna Group R&D departments, as well as external Supplier companies, institutions, and academia as needed. 

Your Responsibilities

 

  • Develop new technologies and/or product ideas either adding content per vehicle (CPV) – top line (revenue) and/or improving profitability (bottom line)  
  • Analyze automotive market trends along with region-specific regulations and develop domain-specific futuristic two-generational product and technology roadmap, in collaboration with Magna groups. 
  • Initiate new R&D projects by developing problem statements and value propositions. 
  • Execute end–to–end Proof of Technology (PoT) or Proof of Concept (PoC) using Ideation Development Process (IDP) 
  • Prioritize projects based on total addressable, relevant market analysis working with other Magna R&D, business development groups. 
  • Capable of prioritizing and performing multiple advanced development studies correctly and efficiently to contain program timing and budget. 
  • Support the ideation process while identifying gaps in the current product or manufacturing technology to guide and provide future R&D efforts to improve the top and/or bottom line. 
  • Analyze engineering results and propose product changes to determine feasibility, and improvement of components, systems, and functional/performance specifications. 
  • Ability to analyze customer requirements and develop KPIs for new products or technologies in alignment with Magna group/s. 
  • Plan and lead IDP gate reviews, and related cross-functional efforts with internal/external customers with required documentation (example – DVP&R, PFMEA, KPI, etc) defined within IDP 
  • Confer with other Research Engineers to clarify or resolve problems and develop design solutions. 
  • Collaborate with CAD Design Engineers and Designers for the generation of 2D/3D CAD data. 
  • Continue to innovate on behalf of internal and external customers. 
  • Perform other duties as required. 

 

Who we are looking for

 

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Science with a focus on Hardware. (Master’s degree preferred) 
  • Knowledge of mechatronic designs and their integration into various systems 
  • Experience in the design, development, or integration of cutting-edge automotive body, safety, and comfort electronics required. 
  • Technical expertise in automotive electronics quality, reliability, and manufacturability. 
  • Understanding of ISO 26262 and other industry/customer-related standards related to EE. 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process and assembly methods 
  • Experience and knowledge of various semi-conductors (System on Chips (SoC) and their applications  
  • Experience with understanding software used and their interrelationships meeting the project requirements (example-auto brain, sewing machine. Mobileye, etc) 
  • Experience working with ECAD tools to develop prototype hardware of electronic devices (preferred)
