About the Team

We’re the core engine behind UI at Workday — the UI Platform team. Our mission is to empower product developers to build fast, scalable, and resilient user experiences. We do this by designing and maintaining the foundational services, libraries, and frameworks used across our entire product surface.

As part of the UI Platform department, our team owns essential backend services and developer tooling, while also partnering closely with other engineering teams to drive service health, observability, and scalability improvements. We’re engineers who think like product developers — focused on usability, performance, and long-term maintainability.

About the Role

This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government which, due to federal government security requirements, mandates that all Workday personnel working on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native)

As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you’ll be at the intersection of platform and product. You’ll help build scalable services and frameworks that power the UI experience, and you’ll work alongside other platform teams to improve reliability and service health. You’ll collaborate closely with other teams to define standards, guide architectural choices, and contribute your expertise on building resilient, high-performing systems.

This role is a mix of hands-on development, technical leadership, and cross-team collaboration.

About You

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building and maintaining software systems in a production environment.
• 5+ years of experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience designing scalable backend services or frameworks used by other engineers.
• Hands-on experience with service monitoring, observability tools, and incident response.
• Experience with distributed systems and microservice architecture.

Other Qualifications

• Experience working in a platform team or building internal developer tools.
• Familiarity with frontend architecture and how UI and backend services intersect.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions.
• A passion for improving developer experience and reducing toil.
• Strong communication skills and experience working across teams and functions.
• Ability to drive consensus on architectural decisions across diverse collaborators.
