Job Description

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) is responsible working with clients and our project management and engineering teams define project parameters, especially for production scale-ups. The AME provides both a technical and operational link between manufacturing equipment suppliers, Ramboll’s project management and engineering teams, and the client’s production operations staff.

This is a role that demands clear understanding of business objectives, the ability to identify performance gaps and the insight, and tenacity to drive improvements to fill those gaps.  The AME will work with product designers, industrial engineers, owner manufacturing/process engineers, quality engineers, operational leadership, facilities engineers, and equipment suppliers to develop specification, conduct risk assessments, adjust designs, create documentation, and implement startup, commissioning, and optimization procedures that yield the expected performance goals of the client’s project.

Essential functions of the AME role include:

  • Lead development of specifications for capital equipment and integrated manufacturing processes.  Facilitate the specification development so that the production and operational requirements are fully vetted, validated, and measurable.  Incorporate health and safety requirements into equipment specifications and shop floor methods.
  • Lead review of equipment supplier’s designs against defined technical requirements and provide design feedback. 
  • Facilitate machinery and process failure modes and effects analysis in the early stages of equipment design.
  • Lead project team and equipment suppliers in creation of commissioning plans designed to demonstrated, through measurable outcomes, the readiness of newly installed equipment for sustained and robust production.  Define implementation schedule for commissioning and optimization process, in coordination with quality validation processes, and work with overall project manager to integrate activities into overall project delivery schedule.  Lead execution of commissioning plans and provide progress reports against defined schedule.  Provide input to facility design engineers, labor planning functions and production scheduling to support transition from machine construction/commissioning to production operations.
  • Assist the project manager with the completion of manufacturing due diligence assessments.
  • Identifies critical reliability and quality demands for manufacturing processes on new equipment and document operator and maintenance work instructions incorporating those demands.
  • Assist the project manager in coordinating with maintenance, owner manufacturing engineering and production leadership in creating and implementing training programs to qualify personnel on maintenance, operation and optimization of equipment and processes.
  • Provide owner’s manufacturing engineering staff input on methods needed to assure sustained, robust production including incoming material specifications, tooling, and fixturing design and post process inspection methods.
  • Use data-driven methods to identify performance improvement opportunities in newly installed capital equipment.  Develop operational and production reports that capture overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) metrics and transfer ownership of ongoing measurement to shop operations.
  • Use data-driven and shop floor methods to identify process improvement opportunities in existing manufacturing facilities.
