UC Health is hiring a PRN OB Technician for the labor & delivery department for 12 Hour PM shift at West Chester. 

The Labor & Delivery OB Technician will support West Chester Labor & Delivery unit. They will be delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs. This role requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to assist in a circulator role under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

The OB Technician is responsible for assisting registered nurses in the provision of basic patient care. The OB Technician needs to demonstrate working knowledge of reasons for tests, procedures, treatments and potential signs and symptoms of complications.  It is also someone who demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide for the physical, psycho/social, safety, cultural, and related patient needs appropriate to the age of the patients of the clinical population served.  

PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):

Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Teamwork/Collaboration:

Participates in unit team and governance based activities. Accomplishes work by:

Transportation:

Incorporates patient safety and comfort to transport patient to/from other areas as directed; provides backup transport services to any department and/or other unit and/or assists with discharging patients home.

Communication/Coordination:

Supports patient care environment by communicating verbally and through written documentation. Facilitates patient/family orientation through explaining steps of the:

Call signal

Visitor policy; location of visitor lounge

Mealtimes, cafeteria location and hours, coffee shop location and hours

Use of side rails; safety standards; no smoking policy Reports to the RN and documents all pertinent patient information accurately, concisely and timely, charting/documentation is done according to hospital policy/procedure.

Participates in care planning and outcome evaluation with team members through change of shift report activities, ongoing communication/documentation, etc.

Posts appropriate patient care signage (e.g. hearing impaired, isolation, etc. in patient's room). Performs necessary computer functions as needed: e.g. order entry; obtaining lab receipts; LINK, etc.

Facilitates transfers and discharges: collects patient's personal belongings, assists patient to wheelchair or stretcher, accompanies patient to new room and/or discharge area. Reinforces patient instructions for clinical and equipment issues.

Safety Awareness:

Demonstrates understanding of conditions and can apply needed knowledgeable skills that affect patient, self, and/or employee safety under normal conditions and conditions that occur in crisis situations: Ensures patient identification through the application and monitoring
