About the role

Description

 The Senior Environmental, Health and Safety Manager (EHS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety plans, policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment at all times. The EHS Manager ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, and conducts any related record keeping, monitoring, and report generation. Supports the development and coordination of safety and environmental related training programs in order to maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge and preparedness across the organization. Manage and ensure compliance of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management system. Engages with senior leadership, management and staff to understand their impact on environmental compliance and to strengthen the company’s commitment to a safety-first culture.


 In This Role You Will:  

  

Personnel Supervision

- Plan, direct, and oversee EHS Compliance Specialist, Environmental Operations Supervisor, EHS Specialist, and Safety Specialist.

- Assist teams with establishing annual goals, metrics, and rocks, as well as setting continuous improvement initiatives.

- Manage budget for departments. 

- Oversee employee’s performance, provides routine feedback as needed, creates development plans & conducts employee appraisals as scheduled.

Environmental and Safety Management:

- Manage and continuously improve Health and Safety Programs which may include, but are not limited to: Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Safety, Process Safety, Ergonomics, Hazard Communication, PPE and other General Safety Programs including but not limited to Hot Work, HAZWOPR, Confined Space, OSHA Recordkeeping and others.

- Evaluate the workplace environment and develop safety-management policies that identify and define safety responsibilities for all employees. Create, implement, and oversee all safety policies, procedures and the annual safety plan including, but not limited to OSHA regulations, hazardous materials program, and emergency response.

- Point of contact of Government Agencies (local, state, federal), Legal Counsel, external communication of environmental concerns / interests.

- Respond to emergency incidents as a First Responder. Investigate safety and environmental (e.g. NOV) incidents to discover root causes and recommends preventative action against recurrence. Reports on all incidents/accidents/injuries to Management Team to explain corrective action and analyzes trends and data to prevent future incidents.

- Establish and maintain polices, procedures and work practices to ensure compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulatory requirements governing water, air and hazardous waste generation, treatment and disposal / emissions. Submit or oversee submittal of various reports as required.

- Maintain Environmental Management System and ISO 14001 requirements. Ensure procedures are updated, maintained, and implemented in conjunction with the VP Quality & EHS.

- Collaborate with all departments and leadership to identify safety and environmental issues and work together to quickly resolve them and to ensure strategy and initiatives are executed at the highest levels.

Security:

- Coordinates efforts between Maintenance, outside service providers (Fire Alarm System, Security guards), and other parties to facilitate the security of company assets, grounds, and employees. These efforts can be both procedural and educational at times. The responsibility includes auditing those systems put in place.

Requirements

 Your knowledge, skills & abilities: 

· Excellent interpersonal skills and with the ability to handle confidential information. The ability to form and maintain positive relationships with employees and management. Managerial courage to challenge leadership to support a safety-first culture. 

· Must have the ability to interface with internal and external customers, as well as outside regulatory agencies. Must demonstrate success working with subcontractors/vendors supporting mutual safety and environmental objectives. 

· Must possess a high level technical background in both safety and environmental management and exhibit strong team-building and leadership ability. 

· Trained to perform ergonomic assessments and have a broad-based knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations. 

· Above average planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize effectively. Technical writing experience preferred.
