Senior Embedded Engineer
LytxAbout the role
Lytx is a leading provider of video telematics, analytics, safety and productivity solutions for commercial and public sector fleets. Our unrivaled Driver Safety Program, powered by our best-in-class DriveCam® Event Recorder, is proven to help save lives and reduce risk. We harness the power of video to help clients see what happened in the past, manage their operations more efficiently in the present and improve driver behavior to change the future. Our customizable services and programs span driver safety, risk detection, fleet tracking, compliance and fuel management. Using the world’s largest driving database of its kind, along with proprietary machine vision and artificial intelligence technology, we help protect and connect thousands of fleets and more than one million drivers worldwide. Within the Lytx Lab team you’ll be part of a group which is rapidly developing and experimenting, bringing news ideas to life. If you’re interested in real time distributed computing intelligence (edge IoT + cloud), with data from GPS, sensors, machine vision, vehicles, 3rd party sources like weather, traffic or deriving insights from data while making a real difference, Lytx is the place for you.
You’ll Get To Do In The Lab:
Be largely self-directed where you can work without constraints, as the name of the game is rapid innovation.
Design, develop and deploy firmware and algorithms to explore novel use cases.
Work within the Labs group along with Big Data, Cloud, Data Science and product explorers to conceptualize, craft/build/test new ideas and break new ground.
Awareness of commercialization aspects is a huge plus, but the bias is towards rapid development to explore valuable new use cases.
Most deployed SW is embedded Linux, with some Android, but in our domain it’s more about the best tools to experiment quickly and other platforms/tools can be used whenever they help achieve that goal.
Architect, design, and implement the mechanism for side loading Beta/Alpha/Labs experimental builds onto a targeted set of devices
The lab team is dynamic and encouraged to share and grow, helping all skill/level up across the other domains
Perform other duties as assigned

Experience with developing algorithms to run in an embedded/constrained context (heat/power/processing limitations)
Experience with sensor fusion (sensors, GPS, image/video)
Experience with communication protocols, data processing (decode/encode)
Detailed understanding of embedded Linux platforms.
Experience with embedded Android platforms is a plus.
Experience with using open-source components in delivering software solutions.
Ability to factor in GPL compliance factors in build engineering
Ability to use Open Embedded-based distributions to produce cross-compiled packages using our existing toolchain
Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or related field or equivalent work experience, graduate level degree(s) are preferred.
