Design Engineer - New Product Development

Position Summary

Design new products, product applications and make improvements to existing products

Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities

• Design and develop products from concept to production
• Evaluate products, parts, or processes for strength, cost efficiency and reliability as required
•  Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams for product requirements
• Develop appropriate plans and prototypes, develop and run tests and make necessary improvements after analysis of designs
• Create 3D models, assemblies, BOMs, and fully detailed drawings
• Investigate and suggest improvements to products based on customers and sales feedback
• Coordinate product design introductions or changes with supply chain and manufacturing
• Limited domestic and international travel required

Accountable for achieving engineering team objectives in relation to:

• Thorough, accurate and on-time work
• Design effectiveness and inventiveness as evaluated by the VP of Engineering
• Adequate and appropriate documentation is maintained for the engineering function
• All products meet the required industry standards

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 5+ years’ experience in engineering and manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated proficiency with SolidWorks 3D/2D
• Proficient in MS Office application
• Demonstrated creative thinking and complex problem-solving skills; analytical; agile learner and thinker
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Ability to work independently and with teams
• Hands-on skills - proficient with hand tools and vertical milling machine
• Ability to prioritize, plan and organize
• A high degree of creativity
• Technical writing
• Experience in the North American Fenestration Industry and standards preferred but not required

Educational & Certification Requirements

• BS degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial engineering or equivalent
