We are searching for the best talent for a Senior Scientist, Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology to be located in San Diego, CA.
Purpose: The Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology team is a part of the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) organization, a critical group in the larger Discovery Sciences organization. We are committed to the delivery of high-quality chemical leads and clinical compounds in the three Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine therapeutic areas. This position requires deep scientific expertise in multiple fields including cellular pharmacology, assay development, compound profiling, in vitro/ex vivo technologies, and imaging capabilities with an ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
You will be responsible for:
- Learn and apply state-of-the-art drug discovery approaches in a multidisciplinary team
- Develop, troubleshoot, and validate functional cell-based, cell-free, and ex vivo assays
- Profile compounds to enable medicinal chemistry SAR studies
- Profile compounds in various organotypic models
- Collaborate across multiple therapeutic teams and functional areas
- Analyze data and present results at program team meetings
- Attend and present data at internal meetings and external scientific conferences
Qualifications / Requirements:
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in cell biology, biochemistry, or related field is required. Advanced degree is preferred.
Skills/Experience:
Required:
- A minimum of 6 years of experience is required.
- Expertise using and creating state-of-the-art cell-based, cell-free, and ex vivo assays
- Prior knowledge troubleshooting assays, processes, and logistics to seamlessly implement new assays across different modalities
- Extensive experience with cell culture and associated techniques
- Broad hands-on experience with rodent handling across a wide range of ages
- Deep expertise with multiplex imaging & immunofluorescence methods
- Deep understanding of cellular biology and pharmacology
- Proficiency with standard scientific software used for data analysis (e.g. GraphPad Prism, Genedata Screener, Perkin Elmer Signals, and Spotfire)
- Excellent written/verbal communication and oral presentation skills
- Ability to adapt to a fast-advancing environment in an independent manner
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with stable cell line creation
- Prior management experience is a plus
- Familiarity with high-content imaging platforms (such as Opera Phenix imagers) and associated software and data analysis packages
- Detailed understanding of small animal anatomy
- Expertise with laboratory automation and high-throughput screening
- Working knowledge in immunology, neuroscience, and/or oncology therapeutic areas
The anticipated pay range for this position is $105,000 to $169,050.
