- Performs advanced mitigation, control, and confinement operations required to control the spill, and stop the release, or otherwise contain the hazardous substance such as cooling, plugging, or patching containers, applying diluting sprays or neutralizing agents, and constructing dams, dykes, or channels.
- Responds to emergency Hazardous Materials scenes, fire incidents, and other related emergency requests.
- Drives hazmat apparatus, ensures vehicle and equipment maintenance and readiness; makes routine and emergency repairs; transports hazmat crews safely to fire/hazmat and emergency scenes; operates firefighting apparatus, pumps, nozzles, hydraulic equipment, etc. Supplies extinguishing agents at scenes; provides proper fire streams. Maintains daily log of equipment and apparatus.
- Responsible for safely operating an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone, including pre-flight planning, launching, navigating, capturing data through aerial photography or videography.
- Handles various products, hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Analyze the incident to determine the complexity of the problem and potential outcomes. Plan a response including developing response objectives, identifying potential response options, selecting the personal protective equipment (PPE) required and a technical decontamination process, and developing an IAP.
- Maintains hazmat station, hazmat apparatus, tools and appliances in a constant state of readiness.
- Performs hazardous material pre-incident plans of commercial and industrial structures. Further assists with public education.
- Completes incident reports, pre-incident plans and other necessary documents.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years job related experience.
- Good verbal and written skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.
- Strong computer skills; good organizational skills; ability to prioritize own work and ability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadline.
- Ability to drive large fire apparatus in a safe and controlled manner.
- TCFP Basic Structural Fire Protection; TCFP Hazmat Technician; TCFP Driver/ Operator; Texas Class-B Exempt Driver License (Texas Class-A Exempt Driver License preferred); ICS 100, 200, 700, 800; sUAV 14 CFR Part 107 Drone Pilot License (preferred).
SALARY RANGE: $24.50 - $36.75 hourly
