Pharmacy Tech - Enhanced Care Pharmacy

SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking a Pharmacy Tech to join our Enhanced Care Pharmacy team. This position is part-time with benefits, 40 hours per pay period, day shift and every 3rd weekend. 

This is pharmacy technician position for the Enhanced Care Pharmacy located in the Blue Building of the Hennepin Healthcare campus. This pharmacy exclusively services patients who receive care at the Positive Care Clinic. The pharmacy is open from 8 am to 5 pm every weekday and has been recently renovated to include a filling robot and additional space for patient care and prescription processing. The position does include a every 3rd weekend component (Every 3rd Saturday and every 6th Sunday) in our discharge pharmacy. 

Purpose of this position: Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answers phones for the pharmacy department and directs calls to appropriate personnel
• Maintains knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy and other related policies
• Prepackages, prepares, labels, and hands out prescriptions after they are checked by a registered pharmacist
• Maintains cash registers, credit card machines, and reporting for cash transactions
• Prepares daily deposits for the cashier’s office
• Bills and credits patient medications
• Stocks inventory in Pharmacy
• Routinely checks and removes outdated and expired medications
• Delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas and picks up new orders as scheduled
• Files prescriptions and reports
• Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion
• Enters outpatient prescriptions
• Obtains and records patient drug histories
• Triages orders, determines priorities, processes orders, and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate
• Performs various calculations to determine the correct dose using weight
• Identifies the appropriate product to process based on the prescription order
• Triages insurance rejections and initiates prior authorization claims as needed
• Uses appropriate pharmaceutical-medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols
• Maintains a working knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs
