The opportunity:
The incumbent is accountable for several key actuarial functions for the U.S. In-force Management (IFM) businesses:
Ownership of participating U.S. products including annual dividend scale recommendation, governance, and on-going product monitoring
Oversee actuarial valuation of UK Payout Annuity business
Expense monitoring and analysis for all businesses
Financial planning and reporting
Supporting capital and/or earnings optimization initiatives
This role is ideal for someone who is highly motivated and enjoys variety in their work and solving challenging problems. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping optimize the in-force businesses from the perspectives of earnings, capital and/or investment strategy. The role offers a unique combination of leverage actuarial expertise towards a broad range of business initiatives.
How you will contribute:
Ownership and subject matter expert of Sun Life U.S. participating block of business. Set annual Par dividend scales and oversee the participating governance process
Lead the annual Adjustable Study on adjustable Universal Life products and manage the governance process
Responsible for all facets of valuation work for the UK Payout Annuity business in collaboration with the ceding company and third-party service provider (in UK) to ensure valuation process is well controlled, documented, and financial results are well understood and communicated
Support the quarterly financial reporting process for all products in IFM, including preparing the quarterly business results package with comprehensive explanation of the DOE (Drivers of Earnings) for senior leadership
Partner closely with the IFM Valuation Actuary and their team to ensure actuarial aspects of IFM's earnings and capital are properly reflected in management reporting and communicated consistently (e.g., between Central Finance, Central Actuarial and Corporate)
Provide support and work closely with the IFM Individual Insurance Strategy and Client Service Teams on common business objectives and goals
Support the annual business and strategic planning activities, projection of income and other key metrics
Partner closely with the Central Finance expense team to monitor, analyze and manage IFM's expenses effectively. Produce supplementary expense analysis to support IFM's business strategy as needed
Take part in business optimization initiatives to extract business values, with earnings/capital/investment considerations
Multi-functional exposure with IFM valuation, Finance & Accounting, Capital, ALM and corporate teams
What you will bring with you:
FSA designation with at least 10 years of relevant work experience
Deep expertise in several of these areas: Pricing, Valuation, ALM, participating products, risk management, capital management, financial reporting, IFRS 17
