A Day in the Life of a Senior Civil Engineer
You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You lead, support, and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. Projects may include multimodal transportation analyses, intersection safety and improvement studies. You use programs such as AutoCAD or MicroStation in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop concept plans, and construction documents, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.
You will be at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, delivering project ideas from concept to construction. You share your knowledge on stakeholder and public outreach, developing feasibility studies and concept plans and preparing construction documents for innovative projects in the City of Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic Region. You participate in business development pursuits in your home region as well as across our Mid-Atlantic offices. Qualifications of a Senior Civil Engineer:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering, transportation
- Professional engineering license (PE)
- 10+ years of experience developing construction documents for roadways or highways
- 2+ years of experience serving in a project or design management role
- Experience managing and/or overseeing work of junior staff
- A broad knowledge base in civil engineering
- Experience preparing transportation and local agency permit documents
- Experience with multimodal design
- Familiarity with national and/or local transportation engineering standards, including the City of Philadelphia, PennDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and/or ITE guidance documents
- Interest in multimodal and active transportation design
- General knowledge of project performance metrics and strategies for monitoring them
- Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD ) and a design software (Civil 3D) is required
- Experience reviewing construction plans and providing constructive feedback
- Experience developing construction documents, cost estimates and specifications
