Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms, with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Senior Manager of Competitive Intelligence that would report to the Senior Director of Research Services.
With a deep understanding of current legal and business research methodologies, resources, and analysis, this position will lead a collaborative team of CI research professionals and requires excellent communication and project management skills.
Based in our Chicago office, this position offers a flexible, hybrid in-office/remote working arrangement which allows for you to work 3 days collaboratively in the office and 2 days remotely.
Primary responsibilities include:
Oversee the firm’s Competitive Intelligence research function to support client meetings, pitches, RFPs, practice, industry, and other strategic projects.
Assist firm leadership in identifying and vetting lateral candidates.
Work with stakeholders to define project scope and objectives.
Conduct senior-level competitive intelligence research and prepare reports including analyses, summaries, benchmarking, and/or visualizations.
Explore and implement innovative research strategies and presentation formats to enhance deliverables for greater readability, accuracy, impact, and value.
Work collaboratively within the larger Research Services leadership team.
Lead and mentor the team of CI Research Analysts to ensure the timely, efficient, and successful execution of all projects.
Facilitate team development by providing professional development opportunities and support.
Experience and Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library or information science (ALA accredited preferred).
7 years of legal and/or business research experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role, preferably a law firm environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Deep knowledge of competitive intelligence principles, trends, and best practices, particularly within the law firm environment.
Expertise with a wide-ranging set of research resources, such as S&P Capital IQ, Intelligize, Lexis+, Westlaw Precision, Bloomberg Law, PitchBook, Mergermarket, Derwent Innovation, ALM Compass , Leopard Solutions, Lexis NewsDesk.
Excellent computer and presentation skills: advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including Excel macros and formulas, and proficiency with data visualization tools such as Qlik and Power BI.
Experience with request management software such as Quest a plus.
Excellent interpersonal and internal client service skills.
Ability to function independently and effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
For positions in Chicago, IL, the salary range for this job posting is $136,800 - $218,850.
The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
