Who will you be working with?
As a member of Field Services Americas, you will be responsible for helping our customer (CSX Railroad) maintain their fleet of GE/Wabtec locomotives through strategic management of repair parts and materials. You will be part of a team made up of Wabtec materials and technical experts, all working to ensure our customer’s fleet is running at optimal levels. This position reports to the regional materials manager who has oversight of multiple facilities. This role is also a direct leadership role requiring daily management of materials specialist staff members.
How will you make a difference?
The Materials Manager is a front-line leadership opportunity ultimately responsible for the success of the materials team at a strategic location. You will be responsible for overseeing the ordering and delivery of replacement/ repair parts and equipment as part of our services agreements with our customer, CSX Railroad. This includes activities such as processing transactions, managing processes, material management, site operations, and warehouse logistics – all from our CSX customer facility in Evansville, IN.
What do we want to know about you?
- Preferred: Undergraduate degree from accredited university or college, preferably in logistics, supply chain management, industrial engineering, or a related field of study
- A minimum of 3+ years of successful professional experience in a relevant logistics/operations focused role
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and/or experience leading others
- Willingness and ability to work various shifts, various days, and work in shop environment as required for successful execution of materials strategies
- High level of proficiency in MS office applications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Demonstrated success in a customer facing role
- The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance
- A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
What will your typical day look like?
Wabtec Field Services employees work inside locomotive diesel repair shops located on our customer’s (CSX) property, and work side by side with our customer, including their management teams.
This is a unique aspect to this role in that you are essentially always in front of the customer, which requires a heightened since of awareness and customer centric focus, but also enables you to see the immediate impact of your contributions on a daily basis. Other main tasks you could expect to carry out on most days would include:
- Lead, mentor, and coach a 24/7 team of Wabtec materials/logistics experts at the Evansville, IN location in achieving the department’s overall strategy and goals
- Implement and lead material strategy that minimizes out of stock and down time events for our customer’s locomotive fleet while achieving inventory turn and quality targets
- Oversee all aspects of warehouse and logistics operations through effective leadership and partnership with operations/customer personnel
- Identify, budget for, and implement necessary warehouse facility upgrades and storage solutions for all Wabtec materials stored onsite
- Deliver business sales and contribution margin
- Work with customers externally and internally to identify new opportunities to improve our current processes.
- May also include Lead Inquiry to Order (ITO) processes through Order to Remittance (OTR). Deliver business sales, contribution margin, develop proposals; negotiate with customers; drive competitive pricing.
- Develop an integrated material schedule, blending forecasted and customer requirements, and communicate to account planner and Material Leader
- Fulfills any other material related responsibilities as required by account leadership – including tight tracking of overhauls and other “big ticket” items
- Ultimately responsible for inventory target and strategies to meet and beat site plans
- All other job duties as assigned
