The Patient Advocate is responsible for facilitating patient access to high-quality health care services by processing applications for health insurance via Covered California, Medi-Cal, the St. Jude Neighborhood Centers’ sliding fee scale program, St. Joseph Health Charity Care applications and/or various other plans and programs that enable access to care. In addition, the incumbent may travel via personal vehicle throughout the community and other Clinical facilities and departments as business needs dictates. This position is a grant funded position with the grant expiring approximately June 30, 2025.
Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ambulatory or hospital financial counseling.
Minimum 2 years in direct or by phone customer service.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrates the ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish without an interpreter.
Ability to communicate clearly in a professional and mature demeanor.
Excellent customer service skills via directly and by phone.
Knowledge of medical terminology, and computer skills.
Demonstrates interpersonal/cultural sensitivity and work with a diverse and often underserved population.
Highly organized with strong time management skills, being able to perform simultaneous tasks and prioritize tasks effectively.
Preferred Requirements:
License/ Certifications:
Certified Enrollment Counselor with Covered California.
Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in an ambulatory or hospital financial counseling.
Minimum 5+ years in direct or by phone customer service.
