Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Football Coach administers a competitive football program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student-athletes, and strives for excellence within the University’s mission.


 

Job Description:

  • Hires and supervises assistant coaches; coordinates recruitment; prepares reports; participates in program and budget planning; develops athletic event schedules; prepares academic reports of activities including statistical analysis for all sports programs; and monitors academic reports for all student-athletes.

  • Administers, manages, and leads the football program in a manner that reflects positively on the image and reputation of the University at all times, in accordance with the University’s mission.

  • Coordinates the recruitment of football players; organizes and conducts all football practice sessions; and teaches the mechanics and techniques of football to the players and ensures that steps are taken to reduce the risks of injury.

  • Supervises and evaluates the work of assistant football coaches; and consults with and obtains approval of the Athletic Director for hiring of all coaches.

  • Monitors the academic progress of football players through ongoing communication and collaborative efforts and First Year Seminar as well as through individual meetings with the student-athletes; and works closely with other academic units to foster improved academic performance of student-athletes.

  • Develops and disseminates rules related to the expected conduct of football players when they are representing Gallaudet University, both on- and off-campus.

  • Monitors, enforces, observes, communicates and supports the University’s academic standards, requirements and policies, including working with the Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, and other academic and support services offices for football players.

  • Works closely with the Director to schedule games for each upcoming season.

  • Works with the Director regarding development of and reporting of information related to team roster, schedule, and results from the previous year and current season outlook.

  • Organizes and conducts a team community service activity each year working with the Student Athletic Advisory Council and the Community Service Programs Office.

  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with external vendors for sponsorships, donations, etc. of sports teams and the overall athletic program.

  • Serves as Gallaudet University’s representative to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

  • Performs related and other duties as needed.
