MHC has an immediate part-time opening (25 hours per week, day time, early afternoons, evenings and weekends as needed based upon on participant needs) for a bilingual English/American Sign Language (ASL) Employment Specialist within the West Hartford area. The Employment Specialist for this position must have the ability to fluently communicate with individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing. The Employment Specialist provides employment services to adults in recovery with serious and persistent mental illness and other co-occurring disorders in all phases of employment service, including but not limited to Medicaid reimbursable services if applicable, intake, engagement, assessment, job placement, job coaching and follow-along employer supports.
Salary: $18.52 per hour.
Requirements
The Employment Specialist responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design, deliver, and document Individualized Recovery Plans (IRPs) to adult persons in recovery by providing effective and timely supplemental job counseling services.
- Integrate rehabilitation with mental health treatment by actively participating in weekly mental health treatment team meetings that discuss individuals in recovery and their employment goals with shared decision-making.
- Effectively collaborate communicate with co-workers to discuss shared persons in recovery and identify potential referrals.
- Assist with developing comprehensive, individualized work incentives planning before starting a new job and offer assistance accessing work incentives planning thereafter when making decisions about changes in work hours and pay including linking and referring to a trained work incentives planner.
- Train, instruct, and supervise such individuals in a supportive employment environment by ensuring that all production demands and work expectations are met.
- Maintain and refer to appropriate community and work supports facilitating access to educational, vocational and mental health services to ensure the success of employment/educational goals and objectives.
- Maintain daily attendance and other records to meet DMHAS and MHC standards.
- Develop individualized job search plan and update information from the vocational assessment / profile form and new job/educational experiences.
- Willing and able to drive a personal vehicle locally and within the state. May be required to transport individuals in personal vehicle.
- Must meet all Fidelity requirements
Experience and Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required. 4 year degree in psychology or a social science, or related field preferred.
- Must be Bilingual in English and American Sign Language (ASL).
- Three years of prior experience in related field or community mental health preferred.
- Knowledge of vocational and educational needs of people who have serious and persistent mental health and substance use conditions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid CT driver’s license, auto insurance and registration.
