Job Overview
The Senior Regulatory and Compliance Project Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex, strategic projects focused on regulatory compliance and risk mitigation initiatives that align with the Credit Union's objectives. This individual will lead cross-functional teams, manage project budgets, timelines, and risks, with a specific emphasis on ensuring adherence to all applicable federal and state regulations, as well as internal policies. The Senior Regulatory and Compliance Project Manager will play a key role in driving organizational change related to compliance, enhancing our risk management posture, and fostering a culture of proactive regulatory adherence.
Responsibilities
Regulatory and Compliance Project Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage multiple complex regulatory and compliance-focused projects simultaneously, from initiation through closure, utilizing established project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) with a strong emphasis on regulatory requirements.
- Develop comprehensive project plans specifically addressing regulatory mandates, including scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, risk assessments related to non-compliance, and strategies for meeting regulatory deadlines.
- Define project goals, deliverables, and success criteria with a clear focus on achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and control project progress, identify and resolve issues, and proactively manage risks, particularly those related to regulatory impact and potential penalties.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration among project team members and stakeholders, including compliance officers, legal counsel, and relevant business units, regarding regulatory implications and requirements.
- Conduct regular project status meetings and provide timely updates to management, highlighting progress on regulatory milestones and potential compliance challenges.
- Manage project budgets and track expenses against approved plans, with consideration for costs associated with regulatory changes and implementation.
- Ensure projects strictly adhere to all relevant federal and state regulatory requirements (e.g., NCUA regulations, BSA/AML, GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and internal policies.
Stakeholder Management (with a Regulatory Focus):
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including senior management, compliance officers, legal counsel, audit teams, and relevant department heads, ensuring alignment on regulatory project objectives.
- Effectively communicate project status, risks (especially those related to compliance), and issues to stakeholders, providing clear explanations of regulatory impacts and mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings and workshops to gather requirements with a strong emphasis on understanding and translating regulatory mandates into actionable project deliverables.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and resolve conflicts effectively, particularly those arising from differing interpretations or implementation approaches to regulatory requirements.
Process Improvement and Best Practices (in a Regulatory Context):
- Develop and implement project management best practices, methodologies, and tools, ensuring they incorporate considerations for regulatory compliance and documentation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within regulatory compliance initiatives and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in meeting regulatory obligations.
- Mentor and guide junior project managers and team members on the importance of regulatory compliance within project execution.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of project management templates and documentation that specifically address regulatory requirements and audit trails.
Risk Management (Focused on Regulatory Compliance):
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, with a primary focus on risks related to non-compliance, regulatory scrutiny, and potential penalties.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies specifically designed to address regulatory risks and ensure adherence to legal and compliance frameworks.
- Proactively address potential issues and escalate risks as needed, particularly those that could impact the Credit Union's regulatory standing.
Vendor Management (with Regulatory Considerations):
- Manage relationships with external vendors, ensuring their services and deliverables comply with relevant regulations and contractual obligations.
