The Registered Nurse for Structural Heart Program is a dynamic role that contributes to the operational goals of the structural heart program within the Cardiovascular Lab. The primary goal is to promote and support an environment of excellent patient care and meet registry guidelines. The RN is a liaison with the offices in coordinating pre-hospital and hospital care to patients undergoing TAVR, mitral clip, PFO and watchman procedures.

A candidate for this role should be comfortable working with providers, delivering patient care, managing workload, and collaborating with the structural heart team.

What you will do:

• Collaboration with physicians and office staff on coordination of patient care, patient education and patient follow up. This includes calling for medical records, organizing chart and assist with scheduling patient for diagnostic testing and surgery.

• Provide patient communication and education including pre and post procedure phone check in.

• Order entry in electronic health record.

• Chart compilation of medical records.

• Ensures data collection and compliance with registry requirements and all healthcare standards established by various licensing, regulatory, and accreditation bodies.

• Assist with identifying areas of strength and areas needing improvement utilizing data provided.

• Develop material to educate and promote the programs within the community and surrounding areas.

• Collaborate with unit leadership to provide formal feedback for registries and governing bodies through performance development process.

• Collaborate with unit leadership to achieve organizational and department quality improvement and outcome-based initiatives.

• Participate in patient care activities as determined by unit needs.

Responsibilities:

• Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

• Maintain the prescribed workload including committee responsibilities.

• Maintain clinical competencies per department policy.

• Ensure quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required with 1-2 years’ progressive experience in the cardiology/ICU, Interventional Cardiology field. 

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York State.

• Demonstrated high clinical competence and ability to work in a team situation with other professionals and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision

• Commitment to interdisciplinary teamwork, relationship-based care and EBP.

• Commitment to, and knowledge of, primary care and community health.

• Chronic disease education and management experience.

• Working knowledge of computers, keyboarding, and various programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

• Maintain, BLS and ACLS certifications.
