We are Progress (Nasdaq: PRGS) – the trusted provider of software that enables our customers to develop, deploy, and manage responsible, AI-powered applications and experiences with agility and ease. We’re proud to have a diverse, global team where we value the individual and enrich our culture by considering varied perspectives, because we believe that people power progress. We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer who lives and breathes front-end engineering. You have battle-tested expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern CSS, an obsession with elegant, accessible user experiences, and a passion for building and evangelizing Design Systems. You will co-own the ShareFile Design System alongside Product Design and champion its adoption across dozens of engineering teams. This will be a hybrid role working between your home office and our Raleigh NC office. In this role, you will:
- Own the Design System: architect, implement, and evolve the ShareFile Design System—tokens, components, guidelines, and tooling. Ensure consistency, accessibility, and performance at scale.
- Lead UI Platform Engineering: set the technical vision for our front-end platform (React 18+, micro-frontends, modern build tooling). Drive adoption of best practices in performance, security, and testability.
- Partner Daily with Product Design: work shoulder-to-shoulder with designers to translate Figma files into code, run design critiques, and keep our component library in lock-step with visual language changes.
- Enhance User Experience with Micro-Interactions: Implement thoughtful motion and interaction patterns to create engaging and intuitive user experiences.
- Evangelize & Mentor: review pull requests, and coach engineers inside and outside your team to use and contribute to the Design System.
- Shape Roadmaps: influence quarterly and annual roadmaps, aligning technical investments with product and UX strategy.
- Raise the Bar: drive a culture of quality—from design reviews to automated tests to observability in production.
- 8+ years building complex, consumer-grade or SaaS web apps.
- Expert-level React, TypeScript, CSS.
- Proven track record creating, scaling, and governing Design Systems used by multiple product teams.
- Deep understanding of web accessibility (WCAG 2.2), performance budgets, and cross-browser nuances.
- Hands-on experience with micro-frontend architectures and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong communication skills —able to translate between design, engineering, and product stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or similar majors
- Cloud-native back-end familiarity (C#/.NET microservices, AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience instrumenting UX metrics (Core Web Vitals, usability analytics).
- Startup mindset - bias for action, high ownership, comfortable in the gray.
- Medical, dental, vision, life & disability, and financial benefits (including 401(k) retirement savings plan. Tuition Reimbursement program. Additional voluntary benefits including crucial illness/hospital indemnity, identity theft protection, auto & home insurance, legal, and pet insurance.
- Competitive salary, bonus, and best-in-class Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) with a 27-month lookback
- Flexible paid vacation time, paid day off for your birthday, and company holidays. A variety of leave plans, including Parental Leave.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and an employee well-being program focusing on physical, mental, and financial health.
