Quantitative Summer Associate

American Century Investments
Santa Clara, United Statesfull_timeVerifiedPosted 25 Apr 2025

About the role

American Century Investments® is a leading global asset manager with over 65 years of experience helping a broad base of clients achieve their financial goals. Our expertise spans global equities and fixed income, multi-asset strategies, ETFs, and private investments.

Privately controlled and independent, we focus solely on investment management. But there’s an unexpected side to us, too. We direct over 40% of our profits every year—more than $2 billion since 2000—to the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Our ongoing financial support drives the Institute’s breakthrough work and mission of defeating life-threatening diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. So, the better we do for our clients, the more we can do for everyone.

All 1,400 of us across the globe are inspired every day by the unique difference our hard work can make in so many lives. It shows in the curiosity we bring to every initiative, the deep relationships we build with our clients, and the way we treat each other in the hallway. If you’re excited to learn more about us, we can’t wait to learn more about you.

As a summer associate, you will become part of and contribute to our Multi-Asset Strategies team that seeks to deliver robust outcomes tailored to client needs. During the 10-12 week internship, you will work directly with our investment professionals and will have broad exposure to the team’s investment management capabilities.

The internship will be centered around a primary research project, in support of the team’s work on portfolio design, construction, and thought leadership in the field of asset allocation. In addition to this project, you may also support the production duties of the team, maintaining or enhancing return and risk reporting capabilities and tactical models.

Given the ever-shifting nature of the field, the summer associate must be adaptable, innovative, and have an entrepreneurial mindset. Also, this position requires a strong interest in understanding portfolio management practices and ways in which these practices can be improved. This position requires proficiency in programming and the ability to get familiar with risk and market data software used by the group, such as FactSet, or Bloomberg.

Major Responsibilities:

Your primary research project may include analysis on a variety of asset allocation topics, including portfolio construction, development and estimation of various metrics and analytics, and customized asset allocation solutions with a focus on specific client needs. This can involve various optimization and quantitative analysis techniques such as Monte Carlo simulations, multi-period optimization, and machine learning. In addition to this research project, further responsibilities may include:

  • Maintain, and support portfolio monitoring tools
  • Analyze portfolio performance and conduct attribution analysis
  • Review industry publications for emerging themes in the asset allocation field. Publications range from Wall St sell-side commentary to academic journals.
  • Attend and participate in asset allocation investment meetings

This position is on-site in our Santa Clara, CA office.

  • Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in programming/coding with Python or Matlab
