About the role

"The Church Exists to Evangelize"! The Pastoral Associate {PA} supports the core mission priorities of Welcome, Encounter and Accompaniment as outlined in Archbishop William Lori's A Light Brightly Visible 2.0 - Archdiocese of Baltimore (archbalt.org). The PA will be a full-time member of the Pastoral Staff and report to the Pastor. The PA will be responsible for Evangelization, Adult Faith Formation and Outreach/Promotion. The mission of the PA will be to invite and assist people to grow in faith, and help form committed disciples who truly Know Jesus, Love Jesus, and Share Jesus! An important consideration in this effort will be to engage the whole person: head, heart, and hands. The PA will develop creative approaches to Evangelization, Adult Faith Formation, and spiritual enrichment, and work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers, including those involved with OCIA, Baptism Preparation, liturgy, and other adult programs to facilitate spiritual growth in Catholics and non-Catholics. St. Michael Poplar Springs, located in Mount Airy, Maryland is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Pastoral Associate for Evangelization and Faith Formation.

The PA will work with the Pastor to assure the implementation of the goals of the Parish Pastoral Plan, including the development of small group opportunities for people who seek to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus, and for those who want to become intentional disciples. This person will also be a key member of the leadership team of the parish family-based faith formation program (such as Bridge), addressing its adult faith-formation components. Another central responsibility of the PA will be outreach/promotion including personal contact, and the utilization of robust and diverse communication platforms -all with an emphasis to connect with marginal. The PA will directly supervise the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Minister and Coordinator of Children's Faith Formation. The PA will also work closely in collaboration with the Pastor, the Pastoral Associate of Lay Minister Formation and other members of the staff to assure a unified message and tone in all communication platforms and collaborate with the Communications Coordinator who will provide graphic design and other technical expertise to effectively convey the desired messaging.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop creative approaches to evangelization, adult faith formation and spiritual enrichment, and work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers, including those involved with OCIA, Baptism Preparation, liturgy and other adult programs to facilitate spiritual growth in Catholics and non-Catholics searching for more in their faith-life. Directly oversees related programs and events.
  • Work with the Pastor and lay leaders to assure the implementation of the goals of the Parish Pastoral Plan, including hospitality initiatives and the development of small group opportunities for people who seek to deepen their person relationship with Jesus, and for those who want to become intentional disciples.
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team of the parish family-based faith formation program (Bridge), addressing its adult faith-formation components.
  • Develop a formation calendar with the pastor for staff, catechist and minster retreats and adult bible studies.
  • Create and build upon what is already taking place in parish life to promote service to those most in need, educationally, socially, materially, and spiritually fostering the practice of charity and Christian virtues by engaging the whole person: head, heart and hands.
  • Maintain a working relationship with Archdiocesan Offices, neighboring parishes, and the Pastoral Council.

Outreach/Promotion:

  • Assure that Evangelization is the primary focus in all parish communications and work closely in collaboration with the Pastor, Pastoral Associate of Lay Minister Formation and other members of the staff to assure a unified message and tone in all communications.
  • Provide a public relations presence for the parish, including weekend liturgies.

Administrative and other responsibilities:

  • Have working knowledge of (or ability to learn) Ministry Platform and other relevant website tools including utilization of social networking and Flocknote email distribution system.
  • Provide annual budget information for ministry area and review and manage income and expenses for line items associated with activities, programs, and events as budgeted.
  • Reviews and signs, acknowledging the parish emergency response plan. Schedules and records annual training for staff, volunteers, and ministers.
