A production planning manager is in charge of developing production plans per the company's budget and deadlines. They must identify the production needs and set objectives and guidelines that would usher employees into achieving a smooth and efficient workflow. They must also monitor the progress of daily production operations, resolving issues when they arise. Furthermore, as a production planning manager, it is essential to lead and encourage employees to meet production goals, all while implementing the company's policies and regulations.
The Production Planning Manager will ensure that the manufacturing process operates efficiently and reliably. You will oversee the coordination of schedules for the production floor as well as ensure the flow of parts, materials, and assemblies between departments is done on time. They will make certain that the manufacturing process operates efficiently and reliably. You will support driving supplier delivery performance, set execution targets, and track performance in support of achieving program financial goals. You will lead multi-disciplined teams in a variety of complex tasks while also developing process improvements and creating the tools necessary for exceptional performance. You will also be responsible for overseeing all activities related to Scheduling and Material Planning in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
This position will work closely with the sales and operations team to understand and prepare for customer demand, and with the Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Inventory teams to secure resources and capacities that guarantee delivery to committed lead times.
Requirements

- Develops and implements master production schedule, and production plans and releases all production work orders
- Monitors/Audits the scheduling system for traceability, flow of work, and efficiency of the system
- Oversees the proper distribution and usage of scheduling reports, work orders, etc.
- Implements various material strategies (make-to-stock, make-to-order) maximizing on-time customer performance and minimizing organizational assets.
- Conducts regular Capacity Requirements Analysis and coordinates outsourcing plans ensuring on-time customer shipments
- Performs work center and resource capacity analysis to determine manpower requirements, bottlenecks, and problem areas, and identify possible resolutions to work center overloads.
- Maintains close working relationship with Production Operations ensuring accurate shop floor control and WIP integrity while meeting production and shipment goals
- Schedules all jobs in the data system and interfaces with Manufacturing Engineers as required to ensure that routers, methods, and schedule dates are accurate and current
- Monitors the movement of products in and out of the manufacturing and outside processors.
- Conducts recurring production meetings to communicate the schedule to manufacturing and to identify and resolve issues as they occur
- Releases orders to manufacturing, verifying that all necessary materials, fixtures, tools, etc. are available. Interfaces with buyer/planners to determine shortage status
- Interfaces with Sales to respond to customer inquiries and to communicate any delays that may impact required delivery schedules
- Review the sales forecast and customer backlog to verify capacity availability within the production schedule. Recommends a course of action to either give the customer the order as it was requested or to give the earliest possible date by which the order could be manufactured with current resources
- Responsible for immediate inputting of process changes as identified by the Manufacturing Engineer into the current router and confirming the changes are incorporated into all future lots and methods
- Interfaces and coordinates with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and all other departments to ensure adherence to schedule and to problem-solve as necessary
- Interfaces with Material Control ensuring that all material and hardware are issued and staged before the operation start date
- Determines the impact of discrepancy notices affecting production lots and takes appropriate action to resolve them. Updates data system upon final disposition
- Maintains master files in the data system, including work centers, operation codes, and production calendars
- Develops both short and long-range improvement strategies
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of formal training or experience in traffic and material control systems.
- Excellent Microsoft Office program skills with strong Excel skill set.
