Job Overview:
The Production Technician plays a critical role in safely and efficiently operating industrial equipment within our Steam Methane Reformer facility. This position follows a 12‑hour shift schedule and is responsible for monitoring process conditions, performing operational rounds, conducting routine sampling, and making control adjustments to maintain optimal plant performance. The Technician will develop strong working knowledge of complex systems—including fired heaters, reactors, steam systems, PSA units, pumps, compressors, and utilities—to support continuous, reliable hydrogen production.
In this hands‑on role, the Production Technician is also responsible for maintaining detailed logbook entries, completing inspections, carrying out minor maintenance tasks, and supporting safe work permitting. Successful candidates demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, engineering, and customer support teams. This position offers opportunities for growth and development, including the potential to advance into a Process Operator role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work assigned 12-hour shift schedule.
- Obtain knowledge required to operate and troubleshoot the various types of equipment associated with Steam Methane Reformers.
- Top fired heater
- Reactors
- High pressure steam system
- Pressure swing adsorption unit
- Pumps and compressors
- Analytical equipment
- Drums and knockout pots
- Utilities i.e., cooling water system, instrument gas system, Flare operations
- H2 Product delivery
- Monitor the Process. This includes making rounds, completing reading sheets, water sampling. In addition to making intervening controls moves to stabilize the process and ensure optimal running condition
- Logbook entries, weekly inspections, monthly inspection, i.e., etc.
- Obtain knowledge of the PSM program and the application of the 14 elements as it pertains to Operations.
- Understand and Operate the Plant within the environmental permit limits.
- Execute minor maintenance activities, adding oil, changing gauges, filters, etc.
- Communicate and coordinate with PBC from a Technician level to handle the needs of our customers
- Identify hazards, safe out equipment, write safe work permits and monitor and assist in maintenance activities.
