Medical Assistant ll : Orthopedic Clinic

Reports to: Orthopedic Clinic Director

FLSA Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt, Hourly $20.03 $23.00

Essential Functions:

- Assess, plan, delegate, implement, and evaluate patient care which includes: making pre-appointment calls to patients; working with referring physicians to ensure quality of patient care; obtaining vital signs and patient tracking information; obtaining appropriate information, specimens, lab results, etc. to prepare patient for the clinical provider; assisting physicians with procedures such as minor surgical procedures                                                                                                                                                                    - Responsible for providing direct medical care in the scope of a Medical Assistant under the direction of the supervising RN and/or physician.                                                        - Operate and maintain appropriate orthopedic medical equipment.                                                                                                                                                                                            - Perform instrument cleaning and prepare for sterilization.                                                                                                                                                                                                            - Document all treatments, procedures, document and provide patient education, and medication administration according to clinical charting guideline.                                    - Perform suture/staple removal as directed by physician.                                                                                                                                                                                                               - Provide pre-operative education and assess surgical readiness.                                                                                                                                                                                                   - Provide pre-operative care packages.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  - Provide post-operative care, post-operative education, and perform follow-ups.                                                                                                                                                                      - Recognize and evaluate changes in patient status and initiate action when appropriate.                                                                                                                                                      - - Perform other duties within scope of practice including, but not limited to:                                                                                                                                                                              - Preparing patients for examination, including draping, shaving, and disinfecting treatment sites.                                                                                                                                      - Performing blood draws.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - Arranging exam room and equipment.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              - Applying braces and distributing durable medical equipment.                                                                                                                                                                                                     - Requesting and calling in prescription orders as approved by the physician.                                                                                                                                                                            - Apply casts and splints independently. Assist in the removal of casts and splints.                                                                                                                                                                    - Assist with joint aspirations.
