Job Description:
Postdoctoral researcher position in a biomedical laboratory will conduct analytical research with some supervision by the Principal Investigator. Responsible for coordinating graduate research, writing manuscripts for submission to journals, and submitting their own career enhancement grants to national agencies. Assist in managing the internal workings of the laboratory, and maintain an awareness of the needs of the lab processes, its collaborators and the department and school at the current level of excellence.
Job Responsibilities:
- 55%- Independently conduct analytical research including toxicological cell culture experiments and analyze samples using techniques such as High Performance Liquid Chromatograpy (HPLC), mass spectrometry, and quantitative PCR, as well as conduct experiments that examine the deleterious effects of environmental chemicals in cells and in rodents. Assist in the design/development of new inhalation exposure methods for animal. Calculate, statistically analyze and tabulate experimental results.
- 15%- Prepare, test, and validate new analytical methods for toxicological studies, using new techniques in analytical chemistry, e.g., mass spectrometry and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Document all new methods as protocols that are readily available to all laboratory personnel. Maintain analytical instrumentation.
- 10%- Compile data for experiments and write scientific manuscripts based upon these experiments. Compile these data for presentation at scientific conferences, either in oral or poster format and for grant proposals.
- 10%- Mentor graduate students and undergraduate student workers. Assist in the management of student projects, including the design of experiments and training in new methodologies. Other duties as assigned.
- 10%- Write career enhancement grant proposals of their own to agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association, so as to develop a pathway toward an independent research position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biomedical, Biological, or related field (Pharmacology, Toxicology, Chemistry, etc.) and three (3) years of postdoctoral experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. with 3+ year's experience. Prior experience with animal experimentation, molecular analyses such as qPCR, and mass spectrometry.
Special and Physical Qualifications:
Requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching (above shoulder), reaching (below shoulder), vision (near sight), vision (far sight), crawling, twisting, pushing/pulling, squatting, lifting 50 pounds or less.
